A 1981 graduate of Auburn University with a B.A. in Public Relations, Tim is now in his 29th year in the insurance and financial services profession, and his 23rd as an agent with the New York Life. Prior to this, Tim was a successful agent and manager with another company in Alabama and Georgia. His career-long commitment to continuing education and professionalism, along with unsurpassed customer service for his clients have been the foundation for his sustained successful practice.
After becoming an agent with New York Life Insurance Company in October, 1989, Tim was recognized as Rookie-of-the-Year for the Central Georgia General Office and earned his Fellow designation (LUTCF) from the Life Underwriters Training Council in 1993. He completed a national certification program in retirement planning in 2006, and added the professional designation "Certified Long-Term Care Consultant" (CLTC) in 2008. He has qualified and attended the company’s council meetings at Executive level or higher for 22 consecutive years, and was honored by New York Life in 2009 as both a "Senior NYLIC" and "Lifetime Council Member."
In 2000, Tim was elected to the Agents Advisory Council (AAC), one of only 24 agents elected company-wide to represent his peers before executive management. Tim ran and was elected for a second term in 2007, serving as Chair of the Underwriting and Service Committee on the 2008 AAC. At the conclusion of the annual meeting, he was nominated for and elected to the AAC Executive Committee as Vice President for 2009, and proudly served as the 64th President of New York Life's AAC in 2010.
Tim has reached the milestone of becoming a Qualifying & Life Member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT*). He is a member of NAIFA, the industry's most widely recongized professional association, a past President and current Scholarship Chair of the West Georgia Auburn Club, and on the board of the LaGrange Gridiron Club and The First Tee of Troup County. He is also a Distinguished Past President and Senior Member of Kiwanis Club of LaGrange. He and his wife, Lisa, are members of Rosemont Baptist Church.
The Ellen's have three children, daughters Ragan Ellen Herdener and Taylor, and son, Spencer.
